Installation Help
Free install consult by phone. We have measured the venting math on every unit we sell.
The most common install mistake
Putting a freestanding unit in a cabinet. The compressor needs to vent or it cooks itself. Read your spec sheet, then call (866) 430-2877 if you are not sure.
Built-in installs
Built-in rated units vent through the front grille. They sit flush in a counter-depth cabinet. Typical clearance: one-eighth inch each side, one inch behind. Confirm the manufacturer's spec sheet for your model before you frame the cabinet.
Freestanding installs
Freestanding units vent through the back and sides. Allow three to four inches of clearance behind, two inches each side, plus six inches above for heat exhaust. Putting one in a cabinet voids the warranty on most brands.
Countertop installs
Countertop units vent around the sides. Easy install, lowest capacity. Best for one or two cases.
Cellar cooling system installs
Once you cross 500 bottles or need a dedicated room, you switch from buying a fridge to buying a system. Sizing depends on four variables:
- Room volume in cubic feet (length × width × height)
- Insulation R-value of the walls, ceiling, and floor
- Ambient temperature outside the cellar at the hottest day of the year
- Door usage in opens per day
A specialist sizes the BTU output to your room in two minutes on the phone. Sizing wrong here is expensive: undersized, the unit runs constantly and burns out; oversized, the unit short-cycles and humidity swings damage corks.
What to confirm before you order
- Install location dimensions
- Power available at the install location (most units 120V standard, some cellar systems need a dedicated 220V circuit)
- Floor level (adjustable legs are included if needed)
- Door swing direction (most units offer reversible doors, confirm at purchase)
- Vent path for built-in units
White-glove delivery
Curbside truck-freight is standard and free. White-glove delivery (in-room placement, debris haul-away, old unit removal) is available as an add-on for most large units. Call before you order and we quote it.
Installation by a professional
